EnSmart offers ASHRAE level 1 to 3 energy audits

At EnSmart Solutions, based on customer needs, we customize the extent and scope of an energy audit to offer our customers higher energy savings. The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has developed a rating system which categorizes the extents of these audits. Below are the descriptions of these levels of energy audits:

Preliminary Energy Use Analysis

This is the most basic type of study where historic utility use and costs are analyzed. An Energy Utilization Index (EUI) of the facility is developed and compared to similar buildings to determine if further engineering study and analysis are likely to produce significant energy savings.

Level I – Walk Through Analysis

This level includes the Preliminary Energy Use Analysis as well as an on-site survey of the building. A Level I energy analysis will identify and provide savings and cost analysis of low-cost /no-cost measures. It will also provide a listing of potential capital improvements that merit further consideration as well as an initial assessment of potential costs and savings.

We additionally provide information on the available utility incentives .

Level II – Energy Survey and Analysis

A level II audit includes a more detailed survey and energy analysis. It includes statistical analysis of utility use and a breakdown of  the energy use within the building. A Level II energy analysis will identify and provide financial cost-benefit analysis (Payback, Cash flow, Internal rate of return) on all practical measures that meet the customer’s constraints and economic criteria. Technical information and analysis of the measures are provided to provide understanding of any changes to equipment, operation and maintenance at the facility. It may also provide a listing of potential capital-intensive improvements that require more thorough data collection and engineering analysis, and a judgment of potential costs and savings. This level of analysis will be adequate for most buildings and measures.

In addition, EnSmart will provide a full cash flow analysis for the estimated lifespan of the project. As well, for each measure, emissions analysis is performed to provide information on the associated reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

Level III – Detailed Analysis of Capital Intensive Modifications

This level of engineering analysis focuses on potential capital-intensive projects identified during the Level II analysis and involves more detailed field data gathering as well as a more rigorous engineering analysis. It provides detailed project cost and savings calculations with a high level of confidence sufficient for major capital investment decisions.

At EnSmart, we exceed ASHRAE standards where level II audits include many of the capital intensive modifications. For level III projects our customers normally hire us to provide project management support for their retrofit projects. As such, we obtain competing quotes from suppliers and use the specific field data and the associated costs to provide the customer with the technical, financial analysis required to make decisions on the suppliers, types and brands associated to their upgrade projects.
