How Much Does an Energy Audit Cost?
The cost of an energy audit in commercial and industrial applications depends on multiple key factors:
A basic level 1 (or walk-through) audit is not detailed and requires significantly less effort compared to a level 3 audit (for more information about audit levels refer to EnSmart offers ASHRAE level 1 to 3 energy audits). Level 2 & 3 energy audits can include energy modelling, simulation, statistical and financial cost/benefit analysis with significant reporting. Consequently, their cost is higher.
A simple walk-through audit to identify readily noticeable opportunities with a short report can be in the range of $3,000 to $5000. For larger facilities seeking a more detailed analysis requiring a level 2 audit, such as commercial office or residential buildings, costs can be in the range of $5,000 to $15,000.
On the other hand, an industrial energy audit can be significantly more complex. Most industrial facilities have a large number of equipment and machinery. It can also be impractical to perform detailed studies on all systems. Corresponding audits range in price from less than $10,000 to several tens of thousand of dollars. In these cases, our team will work with clients to ensure clear project objectives, scope and depth of the study prior to pricing the job. Many factors affect the desired level of service and the associated project hours, so it is important to note that these ranges are approximate and meant to provide a general idea.
