Save on Energy Social Housing Incentives

Save on Energy social housing incentives offer enhanced financial support to Ontario’s social and assisted housing providers undertaking energy efficiency retrofits. Administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), these incentives can significantly reduce project costs and help bring much-needed building upgrades within reach.

Eligible housing providers may receive up to 50 percent of the cost of improvements, including upgrades to HVAC systems, lighting, building envelopes, and in-suite appliances. The program also includes an advance payment option, allowing participants to receive a portion of the funding upfront. This can ease cash flow constraints and accelerate project timelines.

To support planning and prioritization, the program also offers funding for energy audits. Providers can recover 50 percent of the cost of an approved audit, enabling better decision-making based on technical and financial data. These audits help identify the most impactful upgrades and ensure that incentive applications are aligned with program requirements.

As of June 2025, Save on Energy has introduced new program enhancements, including increased custom stream incentive rates and regional adders for areas with grid capacity constraints. These updates further improve access to funding for housing providers seeking to modernize their buildings and reduce electricity consumption.
